Author searches for female Beatles fans who remember Northampton shows for new book | Northampton Chronicle and Echo
An author is wanting Beatles fans from Northampton to get in touch to retell their own stories of how watching the gigs had an impact on them.
Author and journalist Eddi Fiegel is looking for female Beatles fans to play a part in her new book, which tells for the first time the individual stories of ‘The Girls Who Screamed for The Beatles’.
Eddi said: “Of course The Beatles had, and have, millions of male fans but with my book I particularly want to tell the stories of ordinary women – often those girls you see screaming in the photos and how they came to go to the shows.
The foursome were playing during the height of Beatlemania in the town.“Did they have to save up to buy the tickets? Did they tell their parents where they were going? Did they wait for hours in the cold? What was the experience of seeing The Beatles like itself?
“But in addition to this, most importantly, I also want to tell their respective stories and what happened to them subsequently. I find these women’s generation particularly fascinating as they grew up and lived through a period of great social change and I have written about the 1960s in depth in my previous books.”
The Beatles played two shows at Northampton’s ABC Cinema in 1963 at the height of Beatlemania on Wednesday, March 27 and Wednesday, November 6.
She added: “I am a huge Beatles fan myself and so as a female writer with a particular interest in women’s’ stories, these particular stories have a special resonance for me.
“Recounting these women’s recollections of seeing The Beatles will also provide a great starting point to explore not only their experience of seeing the group but also their subsequent lives.”
In the book, which is to be titled ‘She Loves You – The Girls Who Screamed for The Beatles’, Fiegel will go into detail about the women’s recollections of seeing the group but also their own individual stories, looking at how they came to see The Beatles, how they felt about the show and what happened in their lives afterwards.
Eddi Fiegel, who is the author of Oscar-winning film composer John Barry’s biography, would like anyone interested in having their story told to contact her at: shelovesyoubook@gmail.com.
