Sir Paul McCartney puts on incredible three-hour set in Glasgow on Freshen Up Tour as The Beatles legend shows no sign of slowing down
THE legendary Sir Paul McCartney made a triumphant return to Glasgow tonight.
The 76-year-old hit the stage with a THREE-HOUR set – packed with hits spanning his decades-long career.
The singer got the party started with A Hard Day’s Night.
McCartney kicked off the UK leg of his Freshen Up tour in hometown Liverpool earlier this week to stellar reviews.
He said: “It’s great for me to be back and we’re gonna have a bit of fun here tonight.”
And eager Glasgow punters were far from disappointed when McCartney hit the Hydro tonight – his 40 song setlist included tracks from Wings, The Quarrymen, The Beatles and his solo career.
From Letting Go to Who Cares to Got To Get You Into My Life – the singer had the crowd in the palm of his hand from his very first note.
And while the more famous of his hits – From Me To You and Band On The Run to name a few – didn’t fail to get the crowd going, punters couldn’t get enough of his more recent tracks.
Fuh You saw the packed Hydro singing and punching the air.
And Dance Tonight saw McCartney’s drummer Abe start a new groove in the stadium by showing off his slick moves.
Things took a slower turn with My Valentine. McCartney dedicated the song to his wife Nancy who was in Glasgow for the show.
He said: “This is for you babe.”
McCartney reminisced between tracks about friendships with Jimi Hendrix, first recording with The Beatles back in the day, John Lennon as well as paying tribute to signs from punters – including one fan who has seen him 120 times.
Paul said: “I always say to him he must be loaded.
The legendary singer wrapped up his set with Live And Die with exploding pyrotechnics and Hey Jude, leading thousands of fans in a singalong that left ears ringing and fans grinning madly.
He returned to the stage waving a Saltire flag with a seven-song encore featuring Wonderful Christmastime – complete with fake snow – and part of the Abbey Road medley with Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight and The End.
It may have been decades since the singer first shot to fame – but he showed no signs of slowing down.
In perhaps what was one of the best gigs Glasgow has seen this year, Paul McCartney simply signed off with: “Thank you all.”
