With the U.S. midterm elections scheduled to take place on Tuesday, and in the wake of the deadly shootings at a Pittsburgh-area synagogue last weekend, Paul McCartney has taken to social media to share his opinion about the issue of gun control. In a message posted Tuesday on his Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages, McCartney writes, “In the light of the recent tragic shootings in the USA I hope the American people will vote to elect politicians who advocate sensible gun control laws.” Accompanying the note is a photo of the former Beatles star and his wife, Nancy Shevell, wearing black t-shirts that say “We Can End Gun Violence.”The pic was taken last March when the couple took part in the March for Our Lives rally in support of gun control in New York City. That event brought McCartney close to the Dakota building, where his former Beatles band mate John Lennon lived and was shot to death by a deranged fan in December 1980.In other news, McCartney launched a brief series of Japanese concerts on Wednesday with a show at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo. Sir Paul posted a photo on his social media pages showing him and his backing band wearing masks onstage at the concert in celebration of Halloween.McCartney’s Freshen Up Tour in support of his new album, Egypt Station, continues Thursday with a second concert at the Tokyo Dome.Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio.
