An exorcist has been called to the iconic Old Granada Studios after reports of strange goings-on interrupting rehearsals. Home to the former Coronation Street set, the Manchester studios have reportedly suffered from ‘paranormal activity’ for years. Organisers of a wrap party due to take place at the studios the end of this month, were forced to call in the exorcist, after a tribute act refused to play because they claimed they had experienced a ghostly presence while rehearsing.

The band is scheduled to play at the Old Granada Studios wrap party, Granadaland.

The studios have previously hosted the cast of Most Haunted 2005, who came to investigate the former Coronation Street set after a number of reports of paranormal activity.

There is also a substantial amount of historical evidence suggesting the studios are built on top of a graveyard – something featured in the Most Haunted episode.

Another theory to explain the paranormal activity is that dormant stars of return to the studios to try and upstage their replacements.

Granadaland organisers called for the help of an exorcist to try and find the source of the paranormal activity – admitting that this was their “last resort” so the party could go ahead.

The studios previously hosted the first televised performances by The Beatles and Take That, as well as being home to popular TV series including Take Me Out, Coronation Street and University Challenge.

Granadaland is a celebration of the studios rich music and television history and will take place from Friday 28th April until Sunday 30th A.

Christopher Wandsworth, general manager of Granadaland said: “The Old Granada Studios is one of the most iconic venues in the country, and we want to make sure that everyone is happy and comfortable before the event.

“After a lot of back and forth and the ultimatum that, unless something was done the act would pull out, an exorcism was our last resort.

“Without acts, after all, we don’t have a show.

“We know there’ve been numerous rumours over the years about paranormal happenings in the studios, and we know many put this down to their location.

“It’s scary but also exciting to think that the studios we’ve spent so much time at preparing and rehearsing might actually be haunted.”
