What’s happening at the Cavern…The Cavern continues to celebrate its 60th anniversary with a year of new music and new festivals – including our first Ukulele Festival, which attracted 130 ‘uke’ players to Mathew Street. Not only was a good time had by all, but the event in the Live Lounge also raised more than £700 for one of our partner charities, BBC Children in Need too.The Cavern teamed up with colleagues at the Beatles Story, and other city ambassadors, recently on a special trip to Hamburg. John Lennon always said that he was ‘born in Liverpool but grew up in Hamburg’, and the Beatles famously honed their playing over hundreds of hours on stage in the clubs. Find out all about our trip through the Beatles Story Blog here. The Beatles’ first manager, Allan Williams, sadly passed away at the end of December, and to pay tribute to the great man himself, the Cavern held a special musical tribute night on what would have been his 87th birthday. The evening featured appearances from Cavern resident artists like the Cavern Club Beatles, and was followed by a ‘Cave Dweller’ jam session featuring guest musicians who wanted to pay their own tribute to Allan. The Shakers, Mike Byrne & The Sunrockers and The Amazing Kappa Band all appeared, and the tribute also raised more than £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
